Day 1: Intercultural Exchange in Red Rocks Village
Pick up at the airport or at your hotel. A beautiful drive through the North Rwandan hills (two hours’ drive) to Musanze with its stunning backdrop of the five Virunga volcanic mountains. At the Red rocks intercultural exchange center you will help prepare your typical Rwandan lunch. During lunch you’ll chat with the locals and will be introduced to the Rwandese way of telling stories of our past and present. Enjoy the process of banana beer brewing and/or basket weaving. Dinner and overnight at a local homestay.

Day 2: Iby’iwacu Village and local school visit
Visit Iby’iwacu Gorilla Guardians Cultural Village, a non-profit umbrella organization that aims at improving the lives of reformed poachers and communities around Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, focusing on provision of conservation incentives, supporting community enterprise development and livelihood based projects. Lunch at the hotel. Afternoon: look into the Rwanda’s education by visiting a local primary school and participate in either teaching or play games with the children. Dinner and overnight in your hotel.

Day 3: Kagano Village + Gisenyi (Lake Kivu)
Visit to the Kagano community village where you get to know why and when the community left the park. Then depart for Gisenyi. Lunch in the hotel. The afternoon is spent in this largest port on the Rwandan shore of Lake Kivu. Enjoy a boat ride to one of the islands in Lake Kivu or explore the town and the hustle and bustle of the local market. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 4: Gisenyi + Kigali / Uburanga Art Studio
Enjoy a quiet morning at the lakeside. Some info about the lake. After lunch depart for a 3 hours’ drive to Kigali. Visit of the Uburanga studio, a creative space that’s home to artists who are producing some of Rwanda’s finest contemporary art.
Dinner and overnight stay in Kigali hotel.

Day 5: Ntarama & Nyamata Memorial
Visit to the Ntarama church (south of Kigali) where mass killings occurred during the 1994 genocide. Learn more about the unity and reconciliation commission. Proceed to Nyamata memorial site. Return to Kigali for lunch. Drop off at the international airport or at your hotel. (Dinner and overnight stay not included).
