The Virunga Bee Keeping
programs main goal is to aid beekeepers of the Virunga Massif in the
establishment of cooperatives, a business plan that encompasses future survival
and growth of the cooperatives, and an education program that secures the
sustainability of the beekeepers and the importance of environment conservation
and to provide guidelines on how pesticides used to protect farm grown products
may not harm the bees. The program will supply local community with education
on modern bee-hives and markets their products both locally and
internationally. In order to protect the environment as well as wildlife,
Virunga programs sensitize and mobilize local community to keep bees out of
protective areas such as national parks, games reserves, thus combating fire
out breaks in these areas.
