Today, the greatest
environmental challenges are deforestation, soil erosion, overstocking, land
reclamation of wetland/swamps, encroachment of forest areas and poor waste
management with negative impacts on human health and wildlife thus hindrance to
sustainable development.
Recently, the Viruga
Ecotours intends to increase its activities in sensitizing and mobilizing local
communities particularly in the Virunga Massif targeting more especially the
youth who are the future generations to work on environmental forest
conservation.
In addition, the forest
conservation Field Study Education Programs encourage local communities to
carry out re-forestation on the steep slopes to avoid soil erosion, control of
over grazing and misuse of wetlands. The Virunga Ecotours encourage local
communities to work together with our reforestation activities in what we call
(Plant a Tree Programs). This program will allow individuals, communities,
partners, tour companies, schools and higher institutions and to care for trees
whilst helping to create new forests and restore degraded areas.
