About This Program

The Environmental Health program is a community-driven initiative focused on improving public health by addressing environmental risks in rural and conservation-adjacent areas of Rwanda, Uganda, and DR Congo. It integrates clean water access, sanitation infrastructure, hygiene education, and eco-friendly household practices to reduce waterborne diseases and promote sustainable living. Through the installation of rainwater harvesting systems, eco-toilets, handwashing stations, and clean cooking technologies, the program empowers communities to create healthier living conditions while protecting natural resources. Local health ambassadors, schools, and women’s groups are engaged in behavior change campaigns that foster long-term hygiene habits and environmental stewardship.

Program Impact

The Environmental Health program has significantly improved community well-being across Rwanda by enhancing access to clean water, sanitation, and waste management, while promoting eco-friendly practices and climate resilience. Through infrastructure installations, health education, and community-led initiatives, the program has reduced waterborne illnesses, empowered women and youth as health leaders, and fostered sustainable behaviors that protect both people and the environment.
