Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Goma and Transfer to Virunga National Park

Cross the border early to Goma, a bustling town on Lake Kivu’s shores. Transfer to your lodge inside or near Virunga National Park, where you will receive an orientation briefing. Enjoy the lodge’s natural surroundings with spectacular views of volcanoes and the lake.

Overnight: Mikeno Lodge / Virunga Lodge
Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mikeno

After an early breakfast and briefing, set off on your gorilla trek through lush forest trails. Spend up to an hour in the presence of the magnificent mountain gorillas, observing their family dynamics and behaviors. Return to the lodge for rest or enjoy a visit to nearby volcanic hot springs.

Day 3: Wildlife Safari and Cultural Visit

Begin your day with a game drive to spot elephants, buffalo, and other wildlife unique to Virunga’s ecosystem. Later, visit a nearby Batwa community to learn about their culture and conservation roles. Evening relaxation back at the lodge under starry skies.

Overnight: Same lodge

Day 4: Return to Kigali

After breakfast, start the scenic drive back to Kigali, reflecting on your incredible journey through Congo’s wild heart and the magical gorilla encounters.
