Step into the misty bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park and track the lively, endangered golden monkeys in their natural habitat. Begin your journey with an early morning departure from Kigali (4:30 AM) or Musanze (6:30 AM). Arrive at Kinigi Park Headquarters by 7:00 AM for a short briefing from park guides. Then, set off on your golden monkey trek through scenic bamboo forest terrain at the foot of the Virunga Mountains.
The trek is usually easy to moderate and lasts 1–2 hours. Once your group locates the monkeys, you’ll enjoy one magical hour observing them swing, forage, and interact; all within close distance. Their golden-orange coats and cheeky energy make this a wildlife moment like no other.
Return to the park entrance before noon and transfer to a local restaurant for a hearty Rwandan lunch with views of the volcanoes. Optionally, enjoy a cultural visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for insights into traditional Rwandan life, music, and crafts before heading back to Kigali or being dropped off in Musanze.
