Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site in southwestern Uganda, is one of Africa's most biologically diverse areas. This ancient rainforest covers 321 sq km and is home to nearly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. The forest's name "Bwindi" means "dark place," reflecting its dense tree canopy and lush vegetation. Beyond gorillas, the forest harbors over 120 mammal species, 350 bird species, 202 butterfly species, and 1,000+ flowering plant species.
