Nyungwe National Park

Southwestern Rwanda

About Nyungwe National Park

Nyungwe National Park is a vast tropical rainforest in southwestern Rwanda, known for its rich biodiversity and breathtaking scenery. As one of Africa’s oldest montane rainforests, Nyungwe is home to over 1,000 plant species, 13 primate species—including chimpanzees and colobus monkeys—and hundreds of birds, many found nowhere else. With mist-covered hills, waterfalls, and one of Africa’s highest canopy walkways, Nyungwe offers a deeply immersive experience in nature. It is not only a vital refuge for wildlife, but also a place of cultural significance, where local communities have long lived in harmony with the forest.
